Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked states not to get soft on terrorism. A statement issued by PMO claims that Tamil Nadu government has no jurisdiction to release Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins. After Prime Minister’s statement on this issue, the government had decided to directly take on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Centre has also filed a review petition in Supreme Court against the judgement commuting the death penalty of three convicts to life term and, also, against the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to release all the seven convicts in the case.
Six men and a woman — both Indians and Sri Lankans — convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case will be freed, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa Wednesday announced in a decision that prompted Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to observe that his father did not get justice.
