Cyclone Hudhud hit India’s east coast with monstrous ferocity on Sunday, killing at least six people and leaving behind a trail of destruction in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring Odisha.Visakhapatnam which houses two million people and a major naval base was hammered as the cyclone made landfall at around 11.30am.Winds at the speed of 195 kmph brought down power cables and steel towers besides uprooting trees and kutcha houses in the coastal districts.Hudhud was likely to batter a 200-300 km stretch of coastline before losing force inland. Four districts in Andhra Pradesh that are home to more than 14 million people were likely to be worst hit, including about 350 coastal villages.
Out of the six deaths, three were reported from Andhra Pradesh and three from Odisha.

when a very severe cyclonic storm Hudhud tore through the city, unleashing widespread destruction and bringing the otherwise bustling city of nearly 20 lakh people to a grinding halt.
Pakistan has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and blamed India for the current escalations in violence along the disputed border which has resulted in casualties of civilians, the foreign ministry said Sunday.Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz in the letter said persistent shelling and firing by Indian forces has resulted in heavy civilian casualties on the Pakistan side.
“During the period of Oct 1-10, 2014, 20 ceasefire violations along the LoC were reported, resulting in 12 civilian deaths, 52 injured civilians and nine injured military personnel on the Pakistani side,” he said.Aziz said that Pakistan has exercised utmost restraint and responsibility in responding to these provocations.”The Government of Pakistan sincerely hopes that better sense would prevail on the Indian side to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control,” the advisor said.

The Congress has removed Shashi Tharoor from his post as AICC spokesperson, with immediate effect. After the news surfaced, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor issued a statement which said that he accepts party’s decision and he is a loyal party worker. In a press statement signed by Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedi, the party said on Monday that party president Sonia Gandhi had accepted the recommendation of the AICC disciplinary committee to remove Shashi Tharoor from the list of spokespersons of the AICC with immediate effect.
The KPCC had submitted a complaint in this regard as Tharoor had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi
several times in the past, had written editorials in his favour, and had also praised the Swachh Bharat campaign
leader Subramanian Swamy however, said that the Congress was trying to distance itself from Tharoor before the inquiry into Sunanda Pushkar
’s death embarrassed the party.
